Getting Started
Students must be age 7 or older to attend the Artnook. Parents enroll their children and adults can enroll themselves by filling out the enrollment form. On the form, check all times that fit your schedule. Stevi will contact you within a day or two to coordinate lessons with you. Everyone must agree to the studio policy before attending. Here are some important highlights from the policy:
-
Late-notice cancellations and no-shows cannot be made up. However, make-up lessons are allowed in the event of sickness or tragedy if Stevi is notified the day of absence or for any reasons as long as Stevi is notified 24 hours before the absence.
-
Commitment is month-to-month. If the student will not be returning the following month, Stevi must be notified on the student's last lesson of the month. Otherwise, a fee will be charged in the amount of $45 per student.
Tuition & Materials
Payment is due the 1st of each month. A late fee of $10 is added on the 8th. You may pay anyway mentioned here. All art supplies are included.
The number of weekly lessons fluctuates according to the calendar. For example, the Artnook is open 3 Thursdays in January and 5 Thursdays in February. Tuition always remains the same according to the schedule.
General Info
Lessons take place in a professional studio located inside the Odd Shop in Downtown Visalia. There are up to six students in each class. Sessions are 90 minutes long and happen weekly, except when the studio is on break.
Each class begins with a short group lesson called the Artist Circle where we learn about art history, art careers, art analysis, or play an art game.
Then, students work on individual projects according to their skill level and interests. Everyone receives individual attention. Students start with familiar materials and are challenged with new techniques, materials, and concepts as they progress.
What We'll Learn
Most lessons involve:
-
2D art (drawing, painting, collage)
-
3D art (clay, assemblage)
-
textiles (weaving, sewing, knitting, macramé)
-
digital (graphic design, animation).
The genre, style, and content of student art are ultimately determined by what interests each individual. Students will be appropriately challenged with new ideas and techniques as they progress. All students learn about:
-
art elements & principles
-
artistic techniques
-
proper use of materials
-
art history
-
developing creative concepts
-
how to analyze art
